Frequently Asked Questions

Are you still open due to the Covid pandemic?

Yes we are and are processing orders as normal. I use Royal Mail as the courier so please allow a little longer for them to deliver your items. I would advise that you order at least 1 to 2 weeks before you require the items.

I offer a tracked service as one of the delivery options and I would recommend that where possible you select that so that you can monitor the status of your package en route via Royal Mail.

How long will they keep for?

Card and acrylic toppers do not have a end of shelf date.

The icing / fondant sheets I used have a shelf life of at least one year. I supply them to you in a sealed bag and will be fine as long as the bag is not opened. I do recommend that they are used with one to three weeks of delivery.

How do I store the Edible Cake Topper until I am ready to use it?

Icing sheets can be printed in advance and then stored with the plastic backing on until ready to use in the sealed bag provided; this will help to prevent them from drying out.

As with all food colourings, edible images can fade if they are over exposed to UV light, so I would highly recommend storing them in a cool and dry place which is out of direct sunlight, and only open them when you are ready to apply them to your cake or cupcakes.

The icing sheets do not need to be refrigerated; doing so will damage the colours after prolonged amounts of exposure.

Can I apply the edible image to fresh cream instead of icing (fondant)?

I do not recommend this because the edible image will bubble and may even disintegrate due to the moisture from the cream. If you really do want to apply it to fresh cream you do so at your own risk and I would advise you only place the edible image onto the cream immediately just before serving.

We recommend sticking the edible image icing sheet to a rolled out piece of fondant first and then leaving it do dry – please use the advice on this blog https://www.sugarshack.co.uk/blog/how-to-apply-edible-images-to-cakes

Make sure your hands are completely dry when handling the topper. If you wet the image side of the topper the colours will run.

I am unable to remove the edible image from the backing plastic?

This is very rare as our sheets are designed to be Easy to Peel.

If it is sticking to the plastic backing sheet, this is probably due to the temperature and humidity in the room. If you have problems with removing it, place the icing sheet in a fan oven on 40-50c for 30-60 seconds to dry the sheet out, let it cool down and if it still won't peel put it back in, also use a pallet knife to ease up the corner or bend back the backing sheet a little. Repeat if necessary.
